Adventures in the Flyover States

2000 miles, 7 states, 16 days, and 1 wrist fracture...mission accomplished!  The kids and I had a great time on our 2-week Midwest vacation; thanks again to all our loved ones who hosted us and played with us!  Here are a few photo highlights:

We are started with a visit to the American Girl store in Columbus, OH

Then, on to a weekend at one of my favorite places, Lake Tippecanoe in N. Indiana.  In this picture, Rylie is tubing for her first time.

This is the life!

Captain Dave and his first mate, Aunt Francine

Having fun on the boat with Emmy, Gannon and Jenny (Rylie was out tubing again when this picture was taken; she was much more into it than Madelyn)

We took a train ride from Chesterton, IN to Chicago for the day.  Spent the day with longtime friend, Emily McBean (Parrott), and her girls at Shedd Aquarium.  We loved the Aquatic Show with views of Lake Michigan and the Beluga whale.

I haven't seen Parrott in years!  I have missed this girl!

Twins...snuggling in bed together

Playing Putt-Putt with Emmy.  I didn't get any photos of our afternoon at the beach on Lake Michigan (5 mins. from Emmy and Matt's house), but it was so beautiful with the clear, cool water and sand dunes!

Ice cream makes everything better, courtesy of Matt's parents Carolyn and Rick!  Madelyn fractured her wrist jumping off a park swing.  Here she is with her new splint and Rylie's sympathy bandage.  The splint has since come off and she's healed!

We met another longtime wonderful friend, Emily Zang-Bodis (Greenberg), and her daughter in St. Joseph, MI
Em and Claire
We went on the carousel, played at the playground on the beach and toured St. Joseph's little amusement park museum.  Unfortunately, it poured down rain and our trip was cut short.

Sporty Kai and Aunt Susan playing basketball (trashcans as goals).
After a week in Northern Indiana/Chicago/Michigan, we spent the next week in 'home sweet home' Anderson.

Me on the Euro Bungee!

Alyssa and Rylie on the zipline.  Fun, but a little scary!

It's a bird!  It's a plane!  It's my awesome sister Kari!

Fun day of bouncy houses, bungee, bull riding, zipline, and LOTS of ice cream and snow cones!

While we were in line for the adventures, she was a regular at the ice cream and snow cone stands!

Happy 80th Birthday to my sweet Momma!  We threw a party for her full of family and friends.

We've missed you all!  Madelyn with Leah and Crystal.

Because our family of girls is becoming more diverse (boys!) there was a backyard baseball game going on during mom's party.  Thanks to Matt, Jeff, Brandon and Chris for taking over my job of pitching to Kai!!  Here's Matt and Madelyn...playing baseball in a dress just like the All American Girls Professional Baseball League!

Mom with her girls.  We love you, Mom!
During our time in Anderson, I also got to have a great child-free dinner with my high school friend Julie.  We all enjoyed ice cream at Frazier's, picniced at Shadyside, had dinner with Leah and saw her new apartment, played at the pool with Aunt Susan, and just relaxed with mom at home.  On our way back to Richmond, we spent the night with my friend, Tiffany, and her family in Cincinnati. Thanks to her kids, Beyblade wars are on at the Titler house now!  We ended our two week long adventure with lots of rain and the blessing of a full rainbow leading us home in the VA mountains!  We are so grateful for the time we were able to spend with all our loved ones; we miss you already!
